Once you've made the decision to study at Leipzig University, you now have to check if you meet the existing admission requirements.

Higher Education Entrance Qualification

In order to be able to study at Leipzig University, you need a "Hochschulzugangsberechtigung" (HZB, higher education entrance qualification) that permits you to study the degree of your choice. You therefore need to check whether your international university degree/higher education qualification permit you to study at Leipzig University. On the following page, you can check to make sure your degree/qualification certificate of education is recognised as a higher education entrance qualification:

Should your higher education qualification permit not be recognised, you've got the possibility to obtain said qualificatio at the Studienkolleg Sachsen.

An additional consulting is being offered at the German Academic Echange Service concerning the entrance qualificatios as well as the Studienkolleg.

Language Requirements

The main language in which lessons are conducted at the Department of History, Arts and Oriental Studies is German apart from selected courses and modules within the various bachelor and master degree courses of the Institutes of the Department. A sufficient knowledge of the German language is therefore a mandatory requirement.

For your application for a bachelor and/or master degree course to be successful, a C1-Level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) of German is required.

In some of the degrees you can study at the Department of History, Art and Oriental Studies, sufficient knowledge of one or more classical languages (e.g. Latin or ancient Greek) is required. The respective requirements für the respective degrees can be found on the different institute websites.

Application

International students who want to study a bachelor or master degree course at Leipzig University apply to uni-assist with all the required documents. The following links offer further information on uni-assist as well as additional checklists concerning all the required documents:

When applying for a master degree course, many institutes also require you to meet subject-specific admission requirements and/or hand in additional documents such as a letter of application. The specific requirements can be found on the institute websites. When applying for a master degree course, in some cases, you may also have to pass an aptitude test ("Eignungsfeststellungsprüfung"). You have to register for said test. Please note that the deadlines for the registration varies and can be set up to three months prior to the application to uni-assist. Admission

When your application has been successful, you'll receive a note of admission from the German Academic Exchange Service along with further information about topics such as the dates of enrollment and different events like the Welcoming Week or various info events.
